Libby Sipe: Showing Skin

A solo exhibition of experimental sculptural paintings by artist Libby Sipe. Made primarily from paint skins—sheets of acrylic paint that have been removed from a substrate—the compelling, visceral works showcase raw emotion, through the use of the artist’s chosen materials, that encapsulates her journey of healing and continuous transformation.

An opening reception will coincide with the May Art Walk LA event at 5pm on Friday, May 30th at LA Arts’ Lisbon St. headquarters in Lewiston.

About the Exhibition

Drawing from childhood trauma, Sipe builds a world of her own where she explores her playful and resilient spirit that has carried her through challenging moments in her life. This exhibition draws on the artist’s feelings surrounding her own fragility.

Sipe strives to create a world that is equally beautiful as it is uncomfortable. She is opening the door for a deeper conversation with the viewer, challenging them to embrace the joys of life whilst remaining open to holding the darker aspects of life just as closely. The artist aspires to inspire hope, not just for themselves, but for those who choose to engage with her creations.

Libby Sipe: Showing Skin runs May 30–July 10 at the LA Arts Gallery, 168 Lisbon St. in Lewiston.
