Showing Skin is a solo exhibition of Libby Sipe's experimental sculptural paintings made primarily from pint skins. These skins are sheets of acrylic paint that have been removed from a substrate. Drawing from childhood trauma, Libby builds a world of her own where she explores her playful and resilient spirt that has carried her through challenging moment in her life. Drawing on the artist's feelings surrounding her own fragility, Libby showcases raw emotion through the use of her chosen materials that encapsulates her journey of healing and continuous transformation.
Libby strives to create a world that is equally beautiful as it is uncomfortable. She is opening the door for a deeper conversation, challenging the viewer to embrace the joys of life while remaining open to holding the darker aspects of life just as closely. The artist aims to inspire hope, not just for themselves, but for those who choose to engages with her creations.
